Every night, Mother has to work as a cook at the café across the street. When she leaves, she opens the shutters and tells her children, Marie and Francois, that the moon will watch over them.
A carnival comes to town, and the children are so enchanted by it that Francois gets lost when marveling at a balloon. When he is finally found, Mother is afraid so she warns Francois that there are people who steal children and eat them. That night Marie (who was always a little jealous of her brother) tells Francois a frightening bedtime story, where children at the carnival are abducted by an ogress who cooks them for the clowns. What follows is a nightmare that is both terrifying and hilarious.
“Mike Kenny knows how to light the darkest subjects. This show addresses the range of feelings related to darkness and fear, humor, and depth of character. It also deals with family ties and sibling rivalry.” –Marc Laine, Comedie de Valance
